Mission Statement

The Pacifica Indigenous Grandmothers Council of Maui represent an alliance of women elders, wisdom keepers from many nations and tribes, who are dedicated to honoring our diversity while weaving a tapestry of unity through prayer, education and healing for our Mother Earth, all Her inhabitants, the children, and for the next seven generations to come, especially those from the Pacific Island nations.

We are committed to preserving the indigenous ways of life and assisting Mother Earth in Her natural process of evolution. Our ancestors will help us light the way. While no tribe or nation holds all the pieces of our human puzzle, each tribe and nation holds wisdom that can contribute to the healing of All Our Relations. We believe in encouraging unity through diversity to further local projects to benefit our ‘aina and our community and to protect our diverse cultures while helping to sustain Mother Earth.

Here on Maui, projects we may potentially decide to work with include sustainable community; growing our own food and fuel; sharing ancient wisdom and protocols with the community; preserving our cultural heritage; and using traditional medicine to promote healing.

We are deeply committed to and honor the goals and purposes of the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, who in the fall of 2004 gathered from all over the world — thirteen indigenous Grandmothers from Alaska, North, South, and Central America, Africa, and Asia — to form a Global Alliance for the good of all beings.  It was at the suggestion of one of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers that the Pacifica Indigenous Grandmothers Council was formed in Hawaii.   The mission statement of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers is set forth below and we strive to honor these goals as well.

We represent a global alliance of prayer, education and healing for our Mother Earth, all Her inhabitants, all the children, and for the next seven generations to come.   We are deeply concerned with the unprecedented destruction of our Mother Earth and the destruction of indigenous ways of life. We believe the teachings of our ancestors will light our way through an uncertain future.  We look to further our vision through the realization of projects that protect our diverse cultures: lands, medicines, language and ceremonial ways of prayer and through projects that educate and nurture our children.
